ALAN MCNAB, P.E. - MEMBERSHIP CHAIR
Alan Macnab, P. Eng. is the business development officer for Condon Johnson & Associates, a Heavy Civil Engineering Construction Company. He is a practicing engineer with more than 30 years of experience in the drilled shaft/earth retention contracting industry. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1972 and did graduate studies at the same school. Alan has foundation engineering experience in Eastern Canada, Western Canada, the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Hawaii, California, the Mountain States and the Northeastern United States.
Alan was the president of the ADSC-The International Association of Foundation Drilling in 1990-1991 and co-chairs the Washington State Department of Transportation/ADSC Task Force. Alan is a Past-President of the Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He was a representative of the Institutes on the ASCE Board of Direction as well as sitting on the Executive Committee.
Alan has written a number of papers on earth retention and drilled shaft issues including publications in the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geo-Environmental Engineering. He has written a book entitled Earth Retention Systems Handbook, published by McGraw-Hill (2002). He currently teaches courses for the National Highway Institute as well as guest lectures at several universities.
He was awarded the President’s Award by the ADSC, the President’s Award of the Geo-Institute of ASCE and named as the Contractor of the Year by the ADSC. This past year he participated in the UWO Engineering School’s Distinguished Speaker Series.
Because he lives in Seattle, he has the benefit of 12 months of temperate climate. In his spare time he is an avid hiker and a passionate golfer.
